Love, Hope and Peace

Rest me now in the bosom of love, hope and peace,
Then in time release me neath your Golden Fleece

How precious is your steadfast love, O God! All people may take refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.
Psalm 36. 7 โ€“ 9

What is the world without love except indifference and ennui,
Forms of hate, the bait of Satan, the extremity of inhumanity!
Let love shine forth, then, and be consumed like finest wine;
Let people kneel at her shrine, an empty tomb filled with life!

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled in a tree of life.
Book of Proverbs 13. 12

The souls of the righteous are in the hand of God . . . for though in the sight of others they were punished, their hope is full of immortality.
Book of Wisdom 3. 1a, 4

The ability to hope is the greatest gift that God could make to man.
Carlo Carretto, from Summoned by Love

What is life without hope but mere persistence
In existence in an obscure, dead-end alleyway?
And how brightly can the day shine when brine
Is drunk on the dark shoreline of hopelessness?

I will both lie down and sleep in peace; for you alone, O LORD, make me lie down in safety.
Psalms of David 4. 8

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.
Gospel of St. John 14. 27

This ole world cannot offer true peace, only capitulation and toleration;
Tribulation is more often the result of worldly negotiation, vain words
Spoken, promises made and then broken, all for the sake of lasting peace,
While they block the Prince of peace who stands and knocks at the door!

Rest me now in the bosom of love, hope and peace,
Then in time release me neath your Golden Fleece
