Authenticity

What audacity for you to question the authenticity
Of someone you do not even know! And what pity
As you show both your vanity and ignorance . . .
Insanity!
Someone offers you the message of life
And so you knife them in the back,
Exposing your own lack of wisdom!
And what of the tale told of One who cried and died
For you so very long ago so you could belong to God
Instead of darkness, sin, death, and devil?
Your very breath is foul with indiscretion!
Reject the Good News, if you will, and refuse the pew,
But dare not accuse the bearer of that Good News!
Think, instead, that the stranger cares how you fare
So much so that she was bold and told you
What you needed to hear, though it seared
Your overtaxed heart in each and every part;
Barring love is one matter,
Marring someone’s reputation is another altogether;
Lower your defenses ‘n stop making silly pretenses!
Someone loves you with genuine love from above . . .
Authentically!

Alone: The Insanity of Vanity

Sown are the seeds of pride that make you think you can make it on your own;
And so you stride with head held high stifling the sigh of your forlorn heart
Broken apart by the reality that you’re not the strong tree you’ve tried to be
And you can’t even agree within yourself much less three others in your circle;
Your life is but one journal of one mortal, infertile, like one kernel of sea-sand;
And you look around and deep inside know you’re bound for lonely damnation
All because you refuse to bend your knee and bow your head beside your bed,
So you stand tall ‘n grand while shaking and quaking trying to keep your stride,
But you cannot hide your condition and position in life from the all-seeing Eye;
No! You are weak and, like everyone, need to seek help from the only Helper …
Sometimes you can’ make it on your own … In fact, you can never make it alone!
Reach out and let the Spirit teach you to be meek and mild, to seek and be saved;
After all, your vanity is sheer insanity … Allow yourself to be bought and taught
By the only One who can purchase your life, rebirth you and give you new worth!

Out of the Trash Heap

Harmless charms, cheap gems from the carnival of life
Clutched in my filthy hands and not to be sold for gold,
But why am I holding on to these cheap baubles
When in you my soul can reap so much more?

Oh why continue the pain of self-delusion in seclusion
When I can gain life as you wash away all my stains?

You love me with unbounded love found only in you,
Yet do I continue to play away the minutes of the day?
This time that chimes is time you’ve given, not mine!

Ah, Lord, I throw myself at your feet at the mercy seat!
And I give to you the beat of my heart and every part
Of my life so void of genuine life that comes from you!

No more persistence in vacuous existence!
Reach across the distance and touch me!
I lower resistance; change my consistence
In the insistence that I be
What you want me to be!

Oh! Make me more than I now am – it’s a sham –
Renew me, hold me, mold me and make me new!
Unbind my heart and mind, and free me to be . . .
To be and to know that I wholly belong to you!

All of my gifts and talents I lift up to you, O God,
Asking you to put them to some task for you,
And then I will bask in your glory
And tell the thrilling story of just
How you transformed your child
Into meek ‘n mild soldier-servant
No more running wild in his own defiled dreams!

Yes! Make me more than the sham I now am!
Renew me, hold and mold me; make me new
As I lift me up to you, God, so strong and true
. . . so strong ‘n true and where I truly belong!

You Jumped in Front of the Train

You jumped in front of the train;vote
Took a bullet in the brain.
You broke your back,
And left your love in a haversack

You laid your body on the pyre;
Consumed by raging fire.
You took the blame,
And saved me from the flame.

You sheltered me from the storm;
Kept me dry and warm.
You said farewell,
As you hammered in the final nail.

In your eyes the dancing light,
In your breathe the soul takes flight.
In your tears the song sung sweet,
In your heart the heavens beat.

You laid your body on the pyre;
Consumed by raging fire.
You said farewell,
As you hammered in the final nail.

… … … the dancing light and light
… … … and this soul takes flight
… … … songs and songs so sweet
In your heart the very heavens beat.

Come Now, O Breath of Peace

Peoples around the world are bound by the sound of fury,
Shackled by deprivation, starvation, escalation of violence;
People hurt people, avert justice, and desert Lady Wisdom,
Overtly perverting, exerting themselves, inverting decency

O Come now, O Breath of Peace, come from above,
And bind up the broken heart and calm our fears;
Come near and blow through our world with love

Do we really want to mar the earth, this place of our birth?
Do we really want to compromise the worth of all creation?
Here today, but like flowers of the field we yield in the end,
And our place knows us no more and with nothing to show

O Come now, O Breath of Peace, come from above,
And bind up the broken heart and calm our fears;
Come near and blow through our world with love

Peoples around the world struggle to survive, even thrive,
Persistently walking the halls ‘n consistently hitting walls
Of resistance without any assistance even for subsistence;
Is this really how some want to live, with so much to give?

O Come now, O Breath of Peace, come from above,
And bind up the broken heart and calm our fears;
Come near and blow through our world with love

Blow thru each of us with loving peace from above!
Blow thru each of us with loving peace from above!

Peoples around the world are bound by the sound of fury,
And shackled by chains
And shackled by chains

O Come now, O Breath of Peace, come from above,
Blow thru each of us with loving peace from above!
Blow thru each of us with loving peace from above!
